The Long-Forgotten Bath

So back in June we started to renovate the main bath of the H-Haus. Doesn't sound long-forgotten to you? I'm talking June of two thousand and NINE here. That's right. Nine. It's been over a year and a half and the poor project is still hanging in limbo land.

We do have a bit of an excuse though - when I got pregnant the nursery took precedence. And then I had the baby and, well, lets just say the bathroom wasn't the first thing on our minds. Lately I've started longing for a finished and not just functional bathroom in which to take long luxurious bubble baths without seeing ungrouted tile, unpainted walls, and loose ends all around me. (Because that's SO not relaxing!)

Here's a refresher on what the bathroom looked like when we moved in:

That's right, scary black valances, dirty old linoleum flooring, and animal print bathtub borders abounded. The first thing we did was rip out the peeling fiberglass shower surround and tile with clean, classic, and cost effective subway tile:

Then we tackled the floors. After ripping out MANY layers of linoleum, we finally hit bottom and found the original (very damaged) wood floors. They were so damaged that those bit the dust as well and we were left with floor joists.

We installed new hardware in the bath, laid and grouted black and white hex tiles on the floor, and re-installed the original toilet and pedestal sink. I'm happy to say that it's now all functional (I don't miss washing my hair in the sink!) but it's time to tie up the loose ends and make everything pretty.

Now that an eon so much time has passed, my taste has changed a bit, so that means a new idea board! Here's the plan:

We're going charcoal gray (Behr's Anonymous) on the walls, with mustard accents. I'm so excited to get (re)started! Stay tuned.

  1. We have Behr's Anonymous in our bedroom. It's a great shade of grey and looks amazing with pops of white and color.

Looking forward to seeing the final product!

  2. Where are those towels from!? I am in the middle redoing my bathroom in gray and yellow as well and I NEED THEM!

  3. Karen - I'm glad you like the color! I can't wait to get it up on the walls :)

Joi - Thanks so much! I love your blog. Can't wait to read more of it.

Norah - They are from Anthropologie - aren't they amazing?!

  4. joi sent me to your blog...great board..and i love that art work.

  5. Love the hex tiles! That's what I want in my bathroom but our bathroom was built AROUND the clawfoot tub so I think it will be really difficult, if not impossible to do anything in there without removing (thus destroying) the tub.
